Project Description

MSTI Review Project

In 2009, the Mountain States Transmission Intertie (MSTI) was proposed by Northwestern Energy. MSTI would construct a 500KV powerline to transport electricity generated from wind and other sources in central Montana to potential customers in Nevada and California. At the request of Madison County, Montana, a multidisciplinary team made up of five non-profit organizations including Future West, developed a “least cost” analysis of the proposed transmission routes through 15 counties in SW Montana and NE Idaho, and an economic analysis of the costs and benefits of the project to counties and landowners. You can find the study here.
