Project Description

Reshaping Development Patterns in Madison County

Madison County has 25,000 acres of open space and wildlife habitat has been subdivided into lots with the intent of future development, much of it located in the upper Madison Valley. Many of these undeveloped lots are bisected by critical wildlife travel corridors. Now, Future West, together with the Sonoran Institute and Craighead Institute, has initiated a free market effort to conserve as open space, subdivided but not yet developed parcels important for wildlife, recreation and agriculture. An array of free market conservation and development tools are being evaluated for their appropriateness in achieving these conservation goals.
